What is the distribution of caddisflies, fairy shrimp, and amphibian species in vernal pools in the Northeast? How will their distribution change as the climate warms?
Participate in the Vernal Pools Spring 2024 Field Season with your students and become part of the effort to answer these questions. We’ll kick off the event with a conversation with the project’s lead scientists, Aram Calhoun and Hamish Greig, from the University of Maine, about the importance of vernal pools to forest ecosystems and why it is important to collect information on key vernal pool species. You will work with your students to prepare for fieldwork, collect data from a pool near you, and then contribute your data to Project Vernal Pools. Then, we’ll come back together to share observations and questions with professional and community scientists.
